Wikis can be used to encourage students to transfer elements of what they learned through lectures and classroom discussions into an article on the Wiki. The information is then available on the Wiki for other students to read and digest. More importantly, the writer reflects on what she learned on a topic by describing it on the Wiki. This reinforces the student’s learning experience.

REFLECTION
A Wiki is defined as a collaborative Web site comprises the perpetual collective work of many authors. Similar to a blog in structure and logic, a wiki allows anyone to edit, delete or modify content that has been placed on the Web site using a browser interface, including the work of previous authors. In contrast, a blog, typically authored by an individual, does not allow visitors to change the original posted material; only add comments to the original content.
The term wiki refers to either the Web site or the software used to create the site.
In Portfolio Piece 7: Creating Wikis we were required to create a simple wiki that can be used for classroom instruction. The wiki should have a home page with at least 3 additional pages, at least one hyperlink to a web resource on the wiki as well as a video or audio should be inserted.

In creating the Wiki I experienced or had some issues when creating additional pages, in order to try to rectify this problem I watch a video on creating Wikis and followed the steps used to create a new page. I had to follow the steps twice in order to get the pages created.

The piece could be improved by adding a few videos on one page instead of the one video added as a link. I could have also improved my site by changing the background colour, this was not down since the software would not allow me to do so. The site can be used to aid parents in getting to know a little information about the teacher, allow parents to view information such as homework and be notified of upcoming events or activities within the school.
